Dunedin Health & Safety Manager Gary Clarkson took the Safety by Design message beyond the site hoardings and into the classroom at Otago Polytechnic.
His session with 25 second-year architecture and design students in the College of Creative Practice & Enterprise explored a simple but powerful idea: decisions made at the drawing board can have a real impact on safety throughout a building’s life cycle, from construction and use to maintenance and eventual demolition.
The students asked some great questions, quickly grasping how design choices shape safer outcomes. Thanks to Otago Polytechnic for the warm welcome!
